Streets to the Greens - Celebrating our Day 1s in the Community
Streets to the Greens is a series where we highlight those in the LA community making the most out of what golf has given them. Here’s who we got to highlight in June:
Tisha Alyn: Pro golfer, creator, entrepreneur, LAGC investor, and advocate - Tisha has spent her career helping more people see themselves in golf. This Pride Month, she’s reflecting on what it means to live openly, the doors that have opened because of it, and the ones she’s still working to open for the next generation.
“When I was growing up, I didn’t see a lot of people who looked like me in golf. I didn’t see many women, many people of color, or many openly LGBTQ+ people in the sport. If sharing my story helps someone feel like they belong here too, that’s probably the thing I’m most proud of. Golf gave me so much, and now I get to help open that door a little wider for someone else.”
Her message to the next generation is simple: you belong here, exactly as you are.
Kevin Gigax: CEO of the Maggie Hathaway Junior Golf and Community Foundation
Maggie Hathaway Golf Club is the blueprint for affordable and accessible golf in a city known for skyrocketing costs. Golf has long been a sport for the wealthy, and Maggie Hathaway is making strides to bridge the gap.
When asked about what Maggie Hathaway could mean for golf in LA, he had this to say:
“It is a special place, and restoring it is about more than delivering a great urban golf experience. It’s about expanding access and creating opportunity.”
Los Angeles Golf Club is proud to support The Maggie and its impact in creating access, opportunity, and a stronger future for the next generation of golfers.
There are a lot of local LA legends stepping into the world of golf in their own unique way. Who should we celebrate next?
The Loop - Exploring SoCal’s local tracks
The Loop is a series where our very own Ube Wolf travels to local favorites and gives us a flavor of what that course has to offer, why people love it, and what makes it unique.
The Loop, Episode 7 — Goose Creek Golf Club: Just an hour outside of LA, you could have had a chance to qualify for the U.S. Open at this course.
Goose Creek Golf Club is tucked into Jurupa Valley, and for under $100, this place might be one of the most underrated courses in SoCal.
And to serve as a qualifying site for the U.S. Open, you know this place will give you a true test.
